A hysteresis motor is a synchronous motor that can start by itself with a 3-phase voltage source. However, dynamic analysis is difficult because of the non-linearity of the hysteresis ring. It seems that a reliable analysis has not been performed. In this paper, a new approach to the dynamic analysis is proposed. The method separately considers two kinds of torques due to hysteresis and eddy current. The rotor impedance is calculated while considering the variation of the rotor permeability after the motor has entered synchronous speed. The torque and current characteristics are thus recalculated. Since the hysteresis motor is a synchronous machine, the synchronous entry time is important, but it is difficult to measure it accurately when the motor is very small. The load or hysteresis angle begins to oscillate at the synchronous entry time, which affects the waveform of the motor current. It is shown that the synchronization entry time and stabilization time can be measured by measuring the variation of the phase difference between the line voltage and the phase current. The results were confirmed by comparing experiments with a simulation.
