First, this study tracks down how the term "SaeksilNubi(color-thread quilt)" has been used in order to determine what characteristics the study of "SaeksilNubi" has had unlike "Nubi". Second, the study reveals that the first birthplace of SaeksilNubi may be Gangneung by finding the route of collecting SaeksilNubi artifacts scattered in Korea, including the "SaeksilNubi’ owned by the Oriental Museum Embroidery. Third, it provides objective information on the artifacts by giving each object a proper designation based on the sculptural characteristics such as the material, color and shape of the 44 artifacts in the private museum. For the method of research, the study used literature research, interview survey and empirical examination of artifacts, resulting in the following findings: First, the study was able to reveal that the term "SaeksilNubi" was universally used in 1988∼2009, from SaekNubi in 1988 and SaeksaNubi in 1990. Second, tracking down the change of the term showed that the term gained its locality "Gangneung" in the 2010s. SaeksilNubi, which was popularized through the artist, has evolved again thanks to the subtle enthusiasm and dedication of the collector who is the museum"s founder and director. Hwang Soo-hong"s 『Winter Stitch: Love and Origin』 which received the grand prize for the art poster commemorating the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics states that its main motif is "Gangneung SaeksilNubi". I propose to continuously discuss whether ‘Gangneung SaeksilNubi" is a proper name worthy of recognition in the academic world and to give a Korean and regional identity to the traditional textile artifact. Third, based on the sculptural characteristics such as materials, color, and shape of the 44 artifacts studied, the study was able to help establish a unique domain called "Gangneung SaeksilNubi", which has a regional identity of "Gangneung".
