The purpose of this study is to analyze the listening anxiety of Korean university students who are learning Chinese and to identify the correlation between listening anxiety, listening achievement, and learner variables.
The study was conducted with 142 students studying Chinese at University A. First, the Chinese listening test was carried out to classify subjects into advanced, intermediate, and beginner levels. In addition, in order to measure listening anxiety, a questionnaire with 20 questions was written with reference to FLLAS 33 questions by Kim. J. (2000), and then, the study was conducted.
In this study, we summarized listening anxiety into four factors, examined whether these four factors differ by listening level, and analyzed which factor affected listening achievement more. Finally, the correlation between learner variables and listening anxiety was analyzed to examine the relationship between personal characteristics and occurrence of listening anxiety.
It is expected that the results of this study will be helpful when identifying students’ listening anxiety by level and conducting listening class by level.
