In Kyŏngjemun"gam (經濟文鑑), Jeong Do-jeon (鄭道傳, 1342~1398) and Gwon Geun (權近, 1352~1409) took references from a variety of texts, at heart of which was GuJinYuanLiuZhiLün (古今源流至論), a compilation book series edited and commented by Lin Jiong (林駉) and Huang Lüweng (黃履翁) during the Song Dynasty. This paper investigates the similarities between ZaiXiang (宰相, grand chancellor) in Kyŏngjemun"gam and ZaiXiang in GuJinYuanLiuZhiLün.
Previous studies reveal that in Chapter ZaiXiang of Kyŏng -jemun"gam, Jeong and Gwon made references from various books, including ZhouGuanZhengYi (周官正義), ShangTangKaoSu (山堂考索), XiShanDu-ShuJi (西山讀書記). ZhouGuanZhengYi is the main source of the part where Jeong and Gwon explained the role and responsibility of ZaiXiang in Zhou dynasty while ShanTangKaoSu and XiShanDuShuJi are in accordance with the later half of Kyŏngjemun"gam. This paper builds on previous scholarly works and attempts to reveal that ZaiXiang of Kyŏngjemun"gam was modeled after ZaiXiang of GuJinYuanLiuZhiLün, the important reference book which helped early Chosŏn scholars to expand their knowledge and understanding of a myriad of Chinese literature, including Confucian classics and History Book.
