    Traditional soccer balls are usually constructed from 32 pentagonal and hexagonal panels. However, recently, the FIFA Would Cup official soccer balls, constructed from 14, 8 and 6 panels, respectively. Consequently, soccer ball panels have evolved significantly beyond the conventional in terms of their shape and design. Therefore, the present study investigates the flight and aerodynamic characteristics for modern soccer balls using the wind tunnel and kicking robot. Firstly, the wind tunnel tests showed substantial differences in the aerodynamics acting on the ball, depending on its shape. Furthermore, the tests for the kicking robot, revealed large variations in the flight trajectory depending on the ball types and their orientations.
