Diesel engine generators are not only used as main power sources in some regions, including the islands, but also widely used as emergency power sources for industrial facilities and smart grids, including large power plants. In particular, the emergency diesel generator of a nuclear power plant plays an important role in maintaining the safety of the reactor by supplying power to the equipment for safely stopping the reactor. Several phenomena have occurred in the fuel injection pump of nuclear power generator diesel generators, including plunger / barrel sticking, sizing and cavitation on the helix. However, due to the nature of emergency diesel generators in nuclear power plants, the operation time is short and the number of installations is very limited. Therefore, It is difficult to carry out empirical tests of cause analysis and countermeasures. To solve the problems arising from the fuel injection pump of nuclear emergency diesel generators, it is necessary to compare and review the cases of medium speed diesel engines that are being used in the general industry, which have a longer operating time and have more installations. In this paper, the problem of fuel injection pump of nuclear diesel generator was identified and compared with the medium-speed diesel engine in general industry.
