The major airports in Southeast Asia (SEA) play important roles as hubs for connecting Asian countries and cities and have been rapidly expanding the aviation network over the last 10 years. To date, however, most studies have focused on airports in the United States, Europe, and Northeast Asia, limiting the network status of SEA airports. Therefore, this study analyzes the connectivity of passenger and freight networks for 10 major airports in SEA, by investigating link connection of these airports to each other and to other airports from all over the world. Social Network Analysis (SNA) is applied to investigate degree centrality, betweenness centrality and closeness centrality sequentially. As results, both betweenness centrality as well as degree centrality of Singapore Airport, Kuala Lumpur Airport and Bangkok Airport were high enough as hub-airports in SEA. Interestingly, Singapore Airport played a pivotal role in passenger and freight transport from 2006 to 2011, however fell down to the third place in 2016 due to declining airport throughputs. Kuala Lumpur Airport and Bangkok Airport, on the other hand, saw a sharp growth rate, surpassing Singapore’s airports after 2012. Currently, global hubs and major airports, including Incheon International Airport, are investing heavily in capacity through infrastructure expansion and are establishing various policies to increase operational efficiency. The results of this research can be used as a useful reference for understanding the pattern of changes in the aviation network from 2006 to 2016, and for developing proper strategies for responding to coming future changes.
