Over the last 20 years the number of traditional visual merchandisers employed by apparel retailers has been diminishing. Many retailers have found it cost inefficient to maintain a visual merchandiser in each store or even within one district/region. At the same time, retailers are attempting to create a consistent image across all stores, ensure uniformity in merchandise presentation and visual display and to maximize sales per square foot of both branded and private label merchandise. With this type of system the planning is usually done at the corporate office and the set-up takes place at each store under the supervision of the store or district manager. In order to save significant time and cost in developing plan-o-grams, to maximize space and sales, and to improve communications between the merchandising team and the retail store personnel, many retail operations are using a variety of store layout solution software programs. Students who are interested in a visual merchandising career, in addition to traditional VM techniques, must also be familiar with various store layout and rendering software packages, knowledgeable of digital imaging, and able to generate reports of merchandise assortment and fixture programs for specific retail doors. The primary goal for the creative teaching strategy was to strengthen the VM course by integrating traditional techniques with new technologies and software.(중략)
