The purpose of this study was to identify the college students' images of Nurses. Data were collected by open-ended questionnaire. 326 subjects were composed of nursing students and non nursing students who attended in universities and junior colleges at Pusan, Kyung-buk, and Chung-buk from April 30 to May 31, 1995. Collected data were analyzed by all researchers. Statements were categorized and endowed with Key meaning. The results were 1. Positive images of nurses were classified into 21 categories. They were <Kind>, <Clear and smart>, <Serve>, <Tender & peaceful>, <Sincere & have a strong sense of responsibility>, <pretty>, <Be concerned about the patient>, <Cheerful>, <Intellectual>, <Like angel>, <Be proud of work>, <Skillful>, <Smooth interpersonal relationship>, <Strong>, <Have a self-reflection & study>, <Good>, <Calm> <Tolerence>, <Respect for the patient>, <Noble>, <Image of Nightingale>. 2. Among the positive images categories, statements about the <Kind> were the most. Statements about <Clear and smart>, <Be proud of work>, <Serve>, <Tender & peaceful> were a lot. 3. For nusing students, statements about the <Kind> were the most. Statements about <Be proud of work>, <Clear and smart>, <Tender & peaceful>, <Serve> were a lot 4. For non-nursing students statements about the <Clear and smart> were the most. Statements about <Kind>, <Tender & Peaceful>, <Serve>, <Pretty> were a lot. 5. For nursing students who have no experience of the clinical practice statements about <Be proud of work>, <Kind>, <Be concerned about the patient> were a lot. 6. For nursing students who have not experience of the clinical practice, statements about <Kind>, <Clear and smart>, <Serve> were a lot. 7. Negative images of nurses were classified into 21 categories. They were <UnKind>, <Cold-hearted>, <Hard work><Work routinely>, <lnhuman>, <Unsmart>, <Lack of pride for job>, <Deficiency in knowledge and skill>, <Imprudent and talkative>, <Lack a sense of responsibility>, <Unsmooth interpersonal relationship>, <Horrible>, <Dependent>, <Authoritative>, <lgnore the patients' needs>, <unjust>, <Assert one's importance>, <Lack of self-reflection & study>, <Selfish>, <Be difficult of communication>, <Ineffective use of goods>. 8. Among the negative image categories, statements about the <Unkind> were the most. satements about <Cold-hearted>, <Hard work>, <Work routinely>, <Inhuman>, <Unsmart> were a lot.
