In 2019, economic conditions in Gyeonggi province have deteriorated. For the first time after the global financial crisis in 2008, industrial production fell 0.8% year-on-year. In addition, exports in Gyeonggi province decrease 19.0%. Construction and facility investment is expected to be sluggish this year, like the previous year. Firm’s financial condition also worsened. However, due to government’s employment policies, the number of employees in Gyeonggi province increased by 152,000 year-on-year.
The economic slowdown in Gyeonggi province is expected to be due to the shrinking volume of global trade and external demand for Gyeonggi province’s products due to the global economic slowdown caused by structural changes such as the US-China trade dispute and China"s restructuring of economic structure.
In 2020, through the global economic recovery of developing countries, economic conditions related to Gyeonggi province is expected to be improved and economic growth rate in Gyeonggi province is estimated to be 2.4%. Consumption, construction investment, facility investment and export growth rate is expected to achieve 2.3%, 4.2%, 1.2%, and 4.1%, respectively. The employment rate is estimated to be 6.2% and the number of employed in 2020 is expected to be 132,000.
