Vaccination is extremely effective at fighting infectious diseases, especially viral diseases, but subunit vaccines are poorly immunogenic. To solve this problem, novel adjuvants have been explored. Our study focused on producing an oral vaccine against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) virus, using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the expression host to express a gene encoding for Escherichia coli heat-labile enterotoxin subunit B (LTB) fused with a yeast codon optimized gene encoding for VP1 antigen through flexible linkers.
