The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of shade treatment (30% and 70% shade) on plant growth characteristics of three male asparagus cultivars. Two-month-old asparagus seedlings (Atticus, Avalim, and Herkolim) were cultivated in a rain shelter house and treated with different levels of shade. Plants treated with 30% shade were grown in an area of the rain shelter house covered by an additional layer of polyethylene on the roof, whereas 70%-shaded plants were in an area covered with a polyethylene layer and a black net. The control plants were cultivated in an area without any additional layer on the roof of the rain shelter house. Plant height, shoot number and shoot diameter of asparagus seedling were determined. At ten weeks after treatment, asparagus plants were uprooted from the pots, washed, and drained. Bud number and diameter, root number, root length and diameter, fresh and dry weights were measured.
