Fruit drop and damage caused by storm and typhoon are continuing to increase due to global warming and climate change. So, the government recommends farmers to take insurance to compensate for the fruit damage. However, it is difficult to determine compensation cost because the criteria for estimating yield are not clear. There is an urgent need for the technology to clearly estimate the amount of fruit in the orchard. In this study, we developed a deep learning model that detect apple fruit in the tree using YOLO v5 algorithm. As a training dataset, 5,588 images with ripe apple of ‘Fuji’ cultivated in ‘Oga’ orchard owned by Kongju National University were collected during the 2020 harvesting season.
