Introduction and Background
‘Lateralization’ in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty(rTSA) has received a lot of attention over the years due to its potential benefits in terms of increasing range of motion(ROM), lowering risk of scapular notching, and anatomic shoulder contour. Lateralization in the scapula can cause glenoid loosening by increasing the joint reaction force, and has the disadvantage of reducing the moment arm of deltoid. Therefore, lateralization at humerus side is thought to be able to overcome this, and we intend to analyze the clinical and radiological results of it in this study.
Material and Method
This study was performed on 64 patients who underwent reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for at least 1year follow-up. The 32 patients who underwent surgery used medialized humerus(SMR System, Lima, Villanova, Italy) were assigned to MH group, and the remaining 32 patients who used lateralized humerus(Equinoxe Reverse System; Exactech, Gainesville, FL, USA) were assigned to LH group.
