Purpose
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has an irreplaceable role in diagnosing breast cancer due to its high sensitivity. However, because of its high-cost and variable specificity, mammogram and ultrasound (US) remain the “gold standard” for the evaluation of breast cancer. Therefore the MRI is usually utilized after diagnosis of breast cancer in assessing for a more precise extent of tumor and the existence of other lesions or non-mass-like enhancements which could manifest the presence of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). In such circumstances, second-look US (SLU) is performed to evaluate the suspicious or indeterminate lesions on MRI. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of SLU after preoperative breast MRI in breast cancer patients.
Methods
This is a single-center, retrospective study. Clinical data and radiologic findings of 82 patients who underwent breast cancer surgery after both preoperative MRI and SLU between 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2019 were reviewed.
