Purpose
Postoperative delayed gastric emptying is one of the most common problem in the early postoperative period after distal gastrectomy and may have effects on the early recovery after surgery. We evaluated several clinicopathological features associated with delayed gastric emptying and the primary aim of this study was to investigate whether the preoperative endoscopic findings could be associated with postoperative delayed gastric emptying.
Methods
A total of 39 patients underwent distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer between August 2016 and December 2018 were collected and reviewed retrospectively. All patients underwent an esophagogastroduodenoscopy for preoperative evaluation and the results were reviewed by a single qualified gastroenterologist. The patients underwent either open or laparoscopic distal gastrectomy along with D2 lymphadenectomy by a single surgeon performed all surgical procedures.
