Purpose
Despite the high BCS (breast conserving surgery) success rate of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), it is highly debated that the NAC caused local recurrence more than adjuvant chemotherapy. The purpose of this study was to compare the local recurrence rate between the breast cancer patients with NAC and primary surgery.
Method
In this retrospective cohort study, we collected the patients with clinical T2 breast cancer planned to receive BCS before NAC or primary BCS from January 2009 to December 2012. Chart review was performed to collect demographics, clinical tumor size, nodal stages, multifocality, microcalcifications and pathologic tumor characteristics. Local recurrence and survival rate were compared between the breast cancer patient with NAC and primary surgery.
