Purpose
Rectal prolapse in men is known to be a rare condition compared to women. This study aimed to analyze the frequency of male rectal prolapse and compare the results according to the surgical approach performed by a single center.
Method
Patients who underwent surgical treatment for rectal prolapse were included from March 2016 to February 2021. The proportion of males, mean age, and recurrence rates were analyzed. For a comparative study, patients were divided into two groups, transanal or laparoscopic abdominal approach to identify the para-operative parameters. This comparative study also includes a functional test comparing the score of pre- and post-operative constipation and incontinence.
Result
A total of 55 men underwent surgical treatments during the period. It was 23.9% (55/230) of all patients, including women.
