Background/Aims
Proximal gastrectomy provided better quality of life compared with total gastrectomy. However, oncological safety of proximal gastrectomy remains unclear for advanced tumors. We aimed to suggest the indication of proximal gastrectomy in advanced gastric cancer located at the upper third of the stomach by evaluating therapeutic benefits of dissecting lymph node (LN) on the distal part of the stomach, which was not resected in proximal gastrectomy.
Methods
We retrospectively reviewed 878 patients who underwent radical total gastrectomy for pathological T2-T4 gastric cancer which located at the upper third of the stomach from 2003 to 2018.
