The use of probiotics in aquaculture has increased recently due to their beneficial effects on aquatic organisms including disease control, water quality improvement, stress tolerance, digestion, and food absorption improvement. This study aimed to characterize and evaluate the marine bacterium (Pseudoalteromonas xiamenensis) to use as probiotics in aquaculture using the larval zebrafish model. For the identification and characterization, isolated bacteria were subjected to 16s rRNA sequencing, biochemical and physiological tests. After confirmation of the non-toxic nature of the bacteria, its potential as a probiotic was determined using disease resistance, heat resistance, qRT PCR, and protein expression analysis. The isolated strain was identified as P. xiamenensis with 100% similarity with known sequence in NCBI. In further characterization, the optimum growth of bacteria was observed at 30-35°C while the optimum pH was in between pH 6 - 9. Antibiotic sensitivity test revealed P. xiamenensis susceptible for eight out of twelve tested antibiotics: chloramphenicol, ampicillin, gentamycin, cefotaxime, vancomycin, ciprofloxacin, Imipenem, and erythromycin while intermediate resistance to ... 전체 초록 보기
