Sargassum beds have important ecological roles, such as spawning, nursing, and feeding ground for marine organisms. The present study was conducted to clarify the effects of temperature, photon irradiance and photoperiod on the early growth of S. macrocarpum in order to provide basic data for mass cultivation of S. macrocarpum. Mature plants of S. macrocarpum were collected from the subtidal zone along the coast of Tongyeong on June 15, 2018. Embryos obtained from mature plants were incubated for one week under 20°C, 40 μmol m<sup>-2</sup>s<sup>-1</sup> and 14L:10D. And then embryos were cultured under various environmental condition (temperatures: 10, 15, 20, 25°C, photon irradiances: 10, 40, 80 μmol m<sup>-2</sup>s<sup>-1</sup> and photo periods: 14L:10D, 10L:14D) for 6 weeks.
