Most fish undergo periods of starvation during the overwintering, spawning, migration, or geographic reductions in their food resources. Fish can overcome starvation by using biochemical, physiological, and behavioral strategies. The endogenous energy derived from basic metabolites accumulated in the body is consumed as the fish utilize their own tissues to remain alive during the periods of starvation.
