X-joints between RHSs (rectangular hollow sections) of equal section size are very frequently used in steel tubular structures. When these X-joints are applied in practice, they are usually configured at acute angle and thus transmit significant axial force in both chord and brace directions. However, in experimental research, testing of orthogonal X-joints without chord pre-stress has been prevalent in the interest of testing convenience.
