Although the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is known to modulate different biological responses through an activation of endocannabinoid receptor CB1, the impact of ECS on the production of ceramide, an effective structural component of epidermis, has not been studied. Thus we here investigated whether the ECS stimulates the generation of epidermal ceramides in IL-4 treated in vitro model of skin inflammation using N-palmitoyl serinol (PS), an analog of endocannabinoid N-palmitoyl ethanolamine.
