Cordyceps militaris extract (CME) has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in various cancer cells, however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. CME is enriched for adenosine derivatives including cordycepin. Here, we hypothesized that the adenosine derivatives from CME regulated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway to induce autophagic cell death in ovarian cancer. As results from CRE-based luciferase assay, CME treatment increased cAMP signaling, indicating that its adenosine derivatives exerted as adenosine analogues.
