This study investigated whether HM-chromanone could attenuate hepatic steatosis by activating AMPK and PPAR α pathway in hepatocytes. A hepatic steatosis was induced by free fatty acid (FFA) mixture (oleate: palmitate = 2:1) in HepG2 cells. HM-chromanone significantly decreased the lipid accumulation and triglyceride content in FFA-exposed hepatocytes. HM-chromanone upregulated the expression of phosphorylated AMPK and ACC, and inhibited the production of SREBP-1C, an important factor in the induction of lipogenesis, and FAS and SCD-1.
