Butyl butyrate is used as an important compound in industries for producing wines, beverages, foods, and perfumes. The current process for butyl butyrate production has been developed as a two-step process, chemical processes for the production of butanol and butyrate, which are enzymatically converted to butyl butyrate by employing lipases. In this study, alcohol acyltransferases (AATs) were introduced into Clostridium acetobutylicum for the one-step production of butyl butyrate from glucose.
