The purpose of this study is to identify bio-resources derived from the ocean that have been used in the industry in the field of functional cosmetics and to elicit implications through detailed analysis on the cases. The marine biotechnology industry, which is at the early stage of development, is a relatively new area that is expected to be expanded in both domestic and international markets. Until recently, the use of marine bio-resources has been continuously increasing, mainly in the cosmetics industry. The difficulty of securing sufficient resources is the biggest obstacle in developing the marine bio-industry; thereby it is crucial to identify industrially beneficial resources among the potential resources. This study attempts to identify marine bio-resources that have been used for the industrial purpose by focusing on the field of marine bio-functional cosmetics and elicits policy implications based on detailed analysis of the current use of the materials. Based on the findings, the discussion section suggests implications for developing the marine bio industry.
