Against a predominant agrarian setting, farmers' cooperative societies and agricultural development are interactively interlarded in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has a glorious past in terms of farmer's cooperative organization and agricultural development. But with the passage of time, several approaches in cooperative movement appeared on the scene and the potential role of farmer's cooperative societies disappeared from the development scene. At preset farmers' cooperative society in Bangladesh could hardly play any role to ensure wellbeing of the common farmers. The study took the case of Saemaul village leadership development of South Korea to examine the potentialities of implementing some of the components in the context of farmers' cooperative societies in Bangladesh. At present, the farmer's cooperative societies face a number of obstacles to achieve their desired goals. In this paper partial data of an ongoing research at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), Cumilla, Bangladesh has been used to analyze the problems of farmer's cooperative societies and leadership dynamics. Moreover, the stages of Saemaul leadership development has been analyzed to examine the potentialities of the same in Bangladesh. Against this backdrop, the study recommends that farmers' cooperative societies and leaders should be strengthened through initiating different approaches among which SMU can be one of them.
