This study was to recognize the importance of problem perception in the design progress and, if a person involved in the design sector reviews a target related to the environment and finds a problem, for him/her to analyze the problem in which prospect. The selected targets consisted of 6 sectors such as urban, space, traffic, crime, furniture and the subjects were allowed to select their targets freely. The subjects selected the environment and things, determined the original intention of design, and completed the reason why they recognized a problem. After analysis over 3 weeks by the students, the selected environment and things were firstly analyzed with the 6 functional elements of design (method, usage, requirement, goal oriental orientation, aesthetics, and association). Secondly, the functional elements were grouped and simplified such as symbolism, functionality, and aesthetics. The results of the study revealed that when there was a lack of aesthetics in the sector associated closely with life (space, furniture) it tended to be recognized as being a problem. The results of this study will help understand the prospects of design learners and thereby we can improve the design thinking education.
