Purpose : This study examines the difference between civilian nurses and military nursing officers on disaster preparedness. Methods : This study followed a cross-sectional survey design. Using convenient sampling, the research participants were 400 nurses from five civilian hospitals and four military hospitals. Disaster preparedness, disaster education and experience related to disaster were surveyed using the self-reported questionnaire. The data were analyzed using t-test, χ2-test, ANOVA and Duncan test. Results : The participants reported moderate score (3.03±0.51) of disaster preparedness. Military nursing officers’ disaster preparedness score (3.15±0.48) was higher than that of civilian nurses (2.92±0.50). There were some difference on several disaster educations and disaster-related experience between civilian nurses and military nursing officers. Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, it is possible to witness that civilian nurses and military nursing officers have numerous differences on disaster preparedness, disaster education and disaster-related experience. In addition, the key findings of this study will offer valuable information on the review and alteration of disaster education program.
