The purpose of this article is to investigate how small clauses are comprehended by Korean English learners (KLs) and English speakers(ESs). To this end, two kinds of grammaticality judgment tests were developed and fifty-six KLs and twenty-one ESs participated in the tasks. The first test consisted of 21 test items in which different kinds of small clause predicates(NP, AP, PP, V-∅, V-ing, V-ed) were included. The second test consisted of 12 test items in which four kinds of constructions (SC, TOBE, THAT, ZERO) were included in complement clauses. The results from the first test showed that Korean English learners statistically showed lower acceptability on all test items than English speakers. The results from the second test showed that the most accepted complement type for KLs was THAT construction, but ESs accepted TOBE construction most. The least accepted complement type for KLs was TOBE construction, whereas ESs accepted SC construction least. Also, it was indicated that verb types had an influence on the judgment of the complement clause constructions. These results imply that KLs should improve their comprehension of non-finite clauses and should use them more appropriately and frequently like English speakers.
