The common denominators of legal translation are generally the legal and the linguistic theories, and translation studies. Based on these common denominators, legal translation needs convergent interdisciplinary approaches from various view points. Legal translation from the view point of linguistics and legal translation strategies from the view point of functionalist translation theory centered around Skopos are studied to set up a legal translation model based on it. The legal translation and its ideas and definitions are treated from the view point of linguistics, and it is also approached from the view point of linguistics concerned with text types and register. Legal translation strategies are analyzed from the view point of Skopos theory, which is a representative of functionalist translation theories. The Skopos theory, and its applicability and validity are also treated in this study. According to the Skopos theory, translation strategies and methods in legal translation are selected by Skopos when legal texts are translated from source language to target language. A legal translation model approaching from the view point of Skopos, is set up in this article.
Applying various types of legal texts to the legal translation model, it will contribute to reinforcing the theoretical base which renders optimal legal translation in accordance with Skopos.
