초록· 키워드
This study is about Jang Sun Hee’s life and achievement. She was a fighter for independence, one of the executive members of Korean women’s secret organization for independence movement. Because of this, she was imprisoned in 1919-22.
After getting out of the prison, she went to Japan for embroidery and art study. And she was back to her job, a teacher for girls’ school . A few years later, she found Seoul Women’s Private Educational Institute for Handicrafts in 1927. Although it was closed in 1929, she reopened Korean Women’s Private Educational Institute for Handicrafts in 1934. Also she opened short courses.
After her independence movement and imprisonment, she was committed to succeed in traditional embroidery, develop new embroidery, make artificial flower, and devote to the female handicraft education.
She wanted Korean women to have their own economic power to improve their position through handicraft training like embroidery and artificial flower. Also she hoped doing embroidery and artificial flower are not only the way of making a living but also the act of creation and the work of art.
