The purpose of this thesis is to study the intertextuality to across genre and media in fiction and film. In the study of an intertextuality in fiction and film, the most decisive factor is a medium. Fiction is composed of a single sign, a letter which points to notions and forms connotation. Otherwise, film is composed of visual images, utterances, narrations and sound. The visual images can't define notion but can evoke notions, also can't narrate events but can show the situation. Moreover, while a narrator governs the whole narrative in fiction, it is too complicated to define the narrator which governs the whole narrative in film. So the intertextuality between original fiction and adapted film shows the new horizon of esthetic and theme. Ieodo written by Lee, Chung Joon and Ieodo directed by Kim, Ki Young constructed different esthetic and discourses each other through difference of materials and modes of expression. While Ieodo written by Lee, Chung Joon composes the narrative of a firm belief through the language of narration and comments, Ieodo directed by Kim, Ki Young shows symbols of images. In Ieodo written by Lee, Chung Joon, the world of myth overwhelms the real world, but there are collision between mythic ideas and an outlook on the world of modern ages in Ieodo directed by Kim, Ki Young. Due to these dynamic transferal of media, an adapted film not only brings motives from an original work but also gets out of the original work as centripetal force. Owing to more territory of uncertainty the rhetoric of film images offer different esthetic and meaning to the audiences. The intertextuality between fiction and film extends the ways of thoughts and expressions. It is the voice of narrator that makes cultural discourse in fiction. Through the transfer of media, the voice of narrator in fiction varies diverse signs and narrative devices. So transitions of esthetics and discourses also occur. Now cultural discourses exist in dynamic of mutual variations of genre and media. And there mutual medial substitution enrich the esthetics and themes of each text.
