Cyber English teaching has been widely used to provide ample opportunities to speak to native English teacher through a variety of computer-mediated communication methods. This study explores the practical effectiveness of cyber English teaching to elementary school students in 4 English Education districts designated by the Korean government. 629 students were selected from grades three to six from 5 elementary schools in 4 English districts. Students were taught English via desktop video-conferencing by 16 native English teachers for twelve weeks, two six-week sessions. Three English learning materials were used throughout the sessions, such as TALL English materials, digital English textbook materials, and Five-minutes English materials. To examine the effectiveness of cyber English teaching to elementary school students, various data were analysed, such as questionnaires for the students and teachers, native English teachers’daily instructional logs, and video recorded files. The analysis of the data revealed that students showed the positive attitude to the cyber English lesson by native English teachers in terms of enhancing their English competence and motivation. Korean teachers and native English teachers viewed that these cyber English classes provided sound additional learning opportunities to students after school hours and thereby improved their English. However, there were several elements which needed to be improved to make cyber English teaching more effective and efficient, such as solving technical problems, providing teaching assistance and provision of graded materials for different levels of students.
