Danjae(1880-1936), along with Lee In-jik, renewed narrative literature of the modern enlightenment era. He, however, had starkly different mentality and expression methods from Lee In-jik. This study examined the characteristics of Danjae's narrative works in terms of the history of style. In addition to simple changes in style, it also explored changes in ideology expressed in Danjae's narrative works. In short, Danjae's narrative was anyhow related to Jeon and Mongyurok, specific rhetorical styles of the previous era. According to the results of this study, Danjae's two historical narrative works(「Yuhwajeon」style and 「Dongguk Geogeol Choidotong」style)were written using different description principles. Besides, the two works were different in terms of the way of configuring characteristics, the way of exploring value, and the density and expression method of Confucian paragon. Furthermore, while 「Dongguk Geogeol Choidotong」 employed the style to directly exposes '(modern) ethnicity/ nationalism ideology, the value Danjae aimed at,' 「Yuhwajeon」 used the style that arranges 'the value the author aimed at' according to the narrative principles of concealment and exclusiveness through more complicated narrative structure and discoursive language of fiction. In the meantime, Danjae described 'ethnicity and nationalism' ideology as the best value through narrative style of the previous era called Mongyurok. In such process, he especially accepted anarchism which is out of the classical form of anarchism. Danjae's acceptance of anarchism was also the process of self-practice for the enhancement of 'ethnicity and nationalism' ideology. In short, for Danjae, Mongyurok was not the narrative work that literally confirmed Confucian ideology, but the one that changed into the style that exposed '(modern) ethnicity/ nationalism' to rescue the nation and ethnicity that became victims of colonialism and imperialism.
