본 연구는 1980년부터 2019년까지 사하라 이남 아프리카 국가(SSA) 18개국에서 송금이 가계 소비 지출에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 송금과 소비 간의 장단기 관계를 확인하기 위해 패널 자동 회귀 분산 지연 (PARDL) 모델을 채택하였다. 실증 분석 결과 송금은 장기적으로 나 단기적으로 소비에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나 통계적으로는 미미한 수준이었다. 견고성 검사를 위해 Dumitrescu와 Hurlin이 개발한 패널 인과성 검정을 수행하였고, 수행결과, 송금과 소비 사이에는 인과 관계가 없음을 보였다.
