Amisulpride is a highly selective dipaminergic D2 and D3 dopaminergic receptor blocker with no other interactions with central nervous system receptors. Amisulpride shows a robust efficacy in controlling the acute positive symptoms of schizophrenia. Compared with conventional antipsychotics, amisulpride, like other atypical antipsychotics, has a very low propensity to induce extrapyramidal side effects. In the long-term studies, a stable therapeutic response on both positive and negative symptoms is observed without significant tardive dyskinesia. Several long-term studies also have confirmed In this regard, amisulpiride is classified into atypical antipsychotics. Interestingly, amisulpride has proved to be effective in some populations of schizophrenic patients with mainly negative symptom.
