The purpose of this paper is to examine vocabulary patterns appeared in the Korean language materials and investigate whether the vocabulary suggested in each chapter are comprised with the words essential to reflect the main theme. This paper attempts to explore the correlation in the themes between Korean textbooks and other language textbooks, thereby demonstrating the importance of selection of vocabulary in the development of language education materials. This paper argues that for Korean language textbooks to be more effectively instructive, they have to display basic vocabulary related to the main theme of each chapter sufficiently, far beyond the level of vocabulary only covered in the text. This paper may contribute to selection of vocabulary for development of Korean language textbook in the future. (KyungHee University)
