This year (2021) marks the 20th anniversary of the introduction and operation of the national registered cultural heritage system.
Until now, many historic modern buildings in Korea have been registered, but questions still arise about the effectiveness of the nationally registered cultural heritage system. This is because there have been cases of incomplete protection and maintenance of historic monuments in the nationally registered cultural heritage system.
Therefore, this study examines serious errors between designated and registered cultural properties and includes suggestions for the right direction for the protection and maintenance of historic modern buildings through European examples.
