Various renewable energy systems have been applied to buildings to reduce building energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Among those technologies, a photovoltaic (PV) system has been considered a promising means because of several benefits, such as cost-effectiveness and ease of application to the building side. A building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system is one of those approaches, and the system can typically be applied to commercial buildings. Although BIPV systems have been used in many buildings, there are still some limitations of the installation conditions (such as azimuth and inclination angles) determined by the building’s shape and position. To improve the BIPV system’s performance, many efforts have been made to determine the best options for its application. For example, the optimal shape of a building or appropriate positions of BIPV installation can be considered at the design process to increase the annual cumulative solar radiation. Utilizing window systems with PV systems can increase the amount of accumulated solar radiation and power generation by considering proper opening angles of the window systems.
