This study defines self-help groups of marriage-migrant women as constituting self-help groups as Becoming. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), this study examines the meaning of the experiences of marriage-migrant women who participated in a self-help group. For this, in-depth interviews were conducted with three marriage-migrant women who actively participate in self-help groups at the Family Center in Incheon. The data were analyzed using the IPA method suggested by Smith et al. (2009). Three themes, “memories of lack,” “drawing line of becoming,” and “to the crossing space,” were identified as the patterns of experiences. The meaning of participation in self-help groups manifested as “becoming other through the generativity of differences.” The study participants’ past memories were transformed into lines that made a difference while forming interconnections through self-help groups. The self-help group in which they participated established ethical practices for people who have memories of lack, and the process of making a difference was repeated, creating knowledge and attitudes necessary in a multicultural world. Recommendations based on the above research results are as follows. First, the discussion on self-help groups for marriage-migrant women in terms of social and economic participation should be expanded. Second, self-help groups should strive to become an open space that embraces diversity. Third, the Healthy Family Support Center should take actively discover and suggest policies related to self-help groups.
