Background: Communication education for public healthcare workers plays an important role in patient safety by facilitating inter-professional collaboration and improving communication systems. This study aimed to evaluate the educational outcome of an inter-professional communication training program for healthcare providers working in public hospitals.
Methods: A total of 20 physicians, nurses, paramedics, radiologists, and administrative staff in the public health service participated in a two-day inter-professional communication training course on patient safety. The educational methods used were: lectures, case-based discussions, team building games, and board games. Survey questionnaires were used to collect data before and after the training.
Results: The results showed statistically significant improvement in understanding effective and therapeutic communication, patient safety, negative feelings, and colleagueship after education.
Conclusion: Inter-professional communication education for public healthcare workers should be disseminated for patient safety by facilitating collaboration and system improvement among healthcare professionals along with improving satisfaction with public health services.
