This study has the objective of introducing the color design process planned by collecting the opinions of consumers using school facilities. The key goal of color design is to analyze the color status to inherit a tradition uniquely for the school. These include zone colors for each floor and section to obtain easy wayfinding and identity, and present various artistic scenes based on changes in time and space. To achieve this, 12 students (3 in 1st and 2nd grades, 3 in 3rd and 4th grades, and 3 in 5th and 6th grades) and 7 administrators (5 teachers, 1 vice principal, and 1 head administrator), equating to a total of 19 people, participated in five workshops. The main contents of each session included the following:
During the first session, a theoretical lecture was given on which elements compose the school’s color environment, who the leading characters of the classroom are, which conditions of the classroom colors are required in the environment for them to shine, and the desirable color environment and function of standard classrooms, special classrooms, stairs, and corridors. During the second session, strengths and weaknesses were analyzed by observing the external and internal color status of the school, school colors that have been used for a long time, the suitability of the number and area ratio of the accent colors that are used as the color scheme, and whether the colors used in each section and floors are unified. During the third session, the school color environments preferred by the facility users were discussed so as to agree on the preferences of each user. During the fourth session, color specialists combined the results of the workshops to present the concept and direction of the color plan, and collected user opinions.
During the fifth session, the final color design was confirmed by reflecting the color perception and psychology, preference, color scheme area ratio, and other functional aspects of school colors, contextuality inheritance, and presentation of multi-dimensional artistic scenes. During the construction step, supervision was given as to whether the construction is performed by following the plan and whether the method and quality of construction are maintained.
