This study examines how current standard language policy is reinterpreted and appropriated at the language user level. We conduct discourse analysis based on texts by language users on the topic of standard language policy. To this end, Fairclough"s dialecticalrelational approach is applied to analyze comments in articles criticizing state-led standard language policies. First, text analysis divides comments into six semantic categories: order, destruction, non-standard language, fluidity, reference materials, and discrimination, after which the semantic relations of the vocabulary used in the texts are analyzed. These texts" discourse and sociocultural practices are then examined, confirming that in these texts "standard language ideological discourse," which states that a standard language is essential for language life; "language nationalistic discourse," which presupposes a "nation-ethnic-language" connection; and "language democratic discourse," which advocates for the free language life of language users, appeared. It is demonstrated that the first two discourses constitute the reality in which non-standard language is considered a subject of correction, non-Korean languages are excluded, various languages and language users are distinguished, and language and language users not identified as meeting the criteria are excluded, while the last discourse can recognize linguistic diversity and fluidity. It is confirmed that this discourse can promote social practices that do not exclude minority languages and their speakers.
