The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of massage therapy on the treatment of scleredema in preterm infants and to enhance the survival rate by promoting the recovery of scleredema among preterm infants. In the study, 90 preterm infants who received nursing care at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Seoul S Hospital from October 2013 to October 2016 were randomly divided into observation and control groups. The abdomen ointment and partial massage were provided to the treatment group, aside from general nursing care, while gentle massage and rubbing were performed to the control group. Then, the effects of the two groups were compared and analyzed. There were 50 infants in the treatment group and 40 infants in the control group. According to analysis, the overall effective ratio of the treatment group was 96% and that of the control group was 84%. This meant that the analytical difference between the two groups was statistically significant. It concluded that partial massage with subsequent application of abdomen ointment can improve the prognosis and healing rate of scleredema among preterm infants.
