This research aims at examining dental hygienists’ opinions about their awareness and activation of clinical trials who work at dental clinics, university hospitals, schools and etc. A self-report survey was conducted on 126 dental hygienists working at clinics, hospitals and college from October 1 to November 15, 2012. The data was analyzed through frequency analyses, t-test, ANOVA using the SPSS WIN 19.0 program, and the statistical significance level was considered as α=0.05. The response results to “the purpose of the clinical trial”, “the protection of the subjects in a clinical trial comes first”, “where a clinical trial is carried out” and “the procedures of a clinical trial” showed that those 36 years old or older, those with a doctoral degree, professors and researchers, and the respondents working in schools and university hospitals answered yes more. Those with no experiences of clinical trials were 94.4%, the appropriate education time was while attending a college, supplementary education, and etc. in order, and the channels to acquire knowledge was found to be etc. seminars and lectures, magazines and journals, and supplementary education in order. The problematic elements in the activation of clinical trials were turned out to be lack of understanding, insufficient professional manpower, indifference, and not enough facilities in order. The results of the improvement measures to vitalize clinical trials were found to be manpower training, improvement of recognition, establishment of programs, addition of a curriculum, and a supplementary curriculum in order. For dental hygienists’ better understanding of clinical trials, if a program is established and operated, a college curriculum is supplemented, and an efficient educational training system, such as a supplementary curriculum, is prepared and offered, it will contribute to the activation of clinical trials.
