The fermented broth of Lactobacillus rhamnosus have low cytotoxicity and activate nutrients which may help maintain moisture and homeostasis of the skin, and adjust the concentration of calcium ion, they can become the agents protecting a skin barrier. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to determine whether the fermented broth of Lactobacillus rhamnosus using milk cream as a fermented substrate can be used as the material for the skin barrier-recovering cosmetics by observing changes in the skin when the cosmetics including the milk cream fermented broth of L. rhamnosus is applied on the aging skin. We prepared cosmetics by using control materials such as distilled water (C) and milk (M), milk cream (MC) or various testing materials such as fermented milk (FM), fermented MRS broth (MRS), and fermented milk cream (FMC). We observed changes in the skin after the cosmetics of each group were applied onto the facial skin of middle-aged women for 7 weeks. As a result, increases in skin surface moisture contents and sebum contents (p<.01), decreases in TEWL and skin surface temperature (p<.05) were observed in the group of FMC applying the cosmetics prepared with the milk cream fermented broth of L. rhamnosus. These changes were statistically significant. Thus, it was found that the milk cream fermented broth of L. rhamnosus could be used as the material of cosmetics to actively restore and enhance the skin barrier which is damaged by environmental factors such as increases in age and UV lays.
