The purpose of this study was to specify the effects of junior taekwondo instructors’ leadership type on athletes’ game commitment and sports confidence, and thereby suggest an instruction model applicable to sites to taekwondo instructors. Junior taekwondo athletes registered on Korea Taekwondo Association were selected as a population. A survey was conducted targeting athletes that had participated in 2015 National Taekwondo Championship and the 42th National Taekwondo Contest held by Korea Junior Taekwondo Federation. 250 questionnaires were distributed, and totally 212 were used for the analysis excluding 38 containing inconsistent responses. For statistical processing, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The study results can be summarized as below. First, as a result of examining the correlation between leadership type and game commitment and sports confidence, leadership type had a positive (+) correlation with game commitment and sports confidence. Second, charisma of leadership type had a positive (+) effect on cognitive commitment, and intellectual stimulation, conditional compensation, and exceptional management had a positive (+) effect on behavioral commitment. Third, charisma, intellectual stimulation, and conditional compensation of leadership type had a positive (+) effect on physical/psychological preparation, coach leadership, and social support, and charisma, individual consideration, and intellectual stimulation had a positive (+) effect on ability proof. Based on the limitations of this study, directions for follow-up studies can be suggested as below. In this study, research subjects were limited to junior taekwondo athletes, and thus the study results cannot be generalized. Therefore, follow-up studies need to focus on long-term longitudinal research, and expand the empirical level by inputting new psychological variables other than leadership type, game commitment, or sports confidence.
